Escaping from everyday life isn't always easy, but sometimes it's necessary. For those days when you want to escape for a while, this discovery park in Kansas is the perfect getaway. Why not bring the whole family out for a day in nature? There's so much to learn about our ecosystems, and so much to explore in the park. Let's go!
Welcome to the Great Plains Nature Center, a wonderful place for a day out with family.
There's just so much to do here, you'll have to plan the whole day around it. Might as well bring a picnic lunch along, as long as you take your trash with you.
The main building has all sorts of exhibits teaching you about how our local ecosystems work.
Diagrams of prairie grasses and animal tracks are all over, with exhibits on how our world works and the roles played by local wildlife.
There's also live animals and a gift shop full of unique wares.
The live animals are Kansas natives, kept for education and rehabilitation purposes.
The nature center sits right up next to Chisholm Creek Park.
240 acres of trails and wildlife are hiding out in the city, and you're sure to run into a few native critters here and there.
Of course, Great Plains Nature Center hosts multiple events throughout the year.
Take your pick of bird walks, crafting, creature features, and other events hosted by the center.
The nature center is open from 9-5 Monday through Saturday, though the park is open sunup to sundown, 7 days a week.
Why not spend a day out in nature with your family? Bring a lunch, enjoy the critters, and maybe even stay for the sunset. Sounds like a day well spent!
