Kansas is full of wonderful destinations that are worthy of a family excursion, but which are the best for a weekend full of fun? We've gathered all the best Kansas has to offer for destinations, and compiled a list of the top seven. Why don't you take a look? Have you been to any of these?
1. Hedrick's Exotic Animal Farm - Nickerson
Hedrick's is a fantastic place to enjoy a stay at a B&B that also doubles as an exotic animal farm. You can also schedule a tour, if you'd rather stay somewhere a little less... wild. Either way, it's a great way to spend a weekend!
2. Great Wolf Lodge - Kansas City, KS
The Great Wolf Lodge is truly a great family getaway if you're looking for somewhere to entertain your kids while you relax a little.
3. Hays, KS
Spend the weekend exploring the Sternberg Museum of Natural History (yay, fossils!) as well as the Fort Hays State Historic Site where you can see what life was like on a frontier military post. You can also travel East of the town to discover the great beauty of the Cathedral of the Plains in all its glory. Altogether, a great weekend full of history and fun.
4. Milford Lake, KS
Milford lake is my favorite place to camp out, especially since their Flint Hills lodge means I won't have to sleep on the ground in a tent! The views of the lake are gorgeous, and you can catch great fish, or canoe and kayak to your heart's content. (RV's are welcome too!)
5. Dodge City, KS
Dodge City is another of Kansas' tourism towns, and if you've never experienced the love for Western life here, you really should. Besides the Boot Hill museum and historic area, there's also a water park, a casino, and a trolley tour to occupy a weekend full of family fun.
6. Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun - Kansas City, MO
In Missouri, there's plenty to do, but a weekend is well spent at this wonderful amusement/water park combo that's sure to become a great memory for the whole family.
7. Abilene, KS
Abilene is a classic town for our many history lovers. There's the classic home of president Eisenhower, the C.W. Parker Carousel, and the always novel Brookville hotel.
