Sometimes (okay, a lot of the time) you just want to get away from the noise and people. It feels like there are ten million things to do around here, but there's always a crowd wherever you go. So what options do you have left? Explore a nearby area! Just south of Kansas City is this small town where you can relax and enjoy yourself for a while. Let's check it out:
Welcome to Harrisonville! It's a great little community with plenty of friendly people and places to explore while you're here.
It was founded in 1837, but today has a population of about 10,000 residents. That doesn't seem like a lot, especially when you live near 2 million!
It's chock full of history, so every building you see likely holds some within its walls.
This former plantation is the Wayside Rest. It's one of the few surviving antebellum homes in western Missouri.
If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, check out YaYa's.
This alpaca farm is filled with the fuzziest friends you'll ever make! You can take a tour for $5 per person, or just visit to find unique items made from their warm fur.
You'll find all sorts of food here in town, including some epic pizza at Randazzo's.
They also serve up pasta and subs, so don't feel like you're confined to just pie here.
If you're not in the mood for pizza, check out one of the other tasty restaurants in town.
I suggest Forged by Fire, The Garage, The Best Burrito, or Brick House Coffee Bar. They're all so delicious, it's hard to choose a favorite!
What if you want to get away from people altogether?
If you really want to escape from the city, take a walk through the trails and into nature at Harrison City Lake. There's so much to do here, you'll have to keep coming back for more.
You'll find Harrisonville along I-49, about 45 minutes south of Kansas City. Here's a handy map to help you get there. Happy travels!
This town might be charming and not too crazy, but have you ever wondered just what kind of crazy things you can find around Kansas City? You might be surprised by some of these quirky attractions!
