The air is getting colder, we’re gearing up for Thanksgiving, and that means only one thing...Christmas is right around the corner. If you want to experience the magic of the holidays with your family this year, this real life Polar Express is the perfect way to do it. This magical train ride comes complete with hot chocolate, cookies and even Santa.
So if you want to take your Christmas season to the next level, make sure to join Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad on their Santa Express. This article was written last year, but we've updated it with all new details for 2018!
(Please Note: Tickets for this event sell quickly, so be sure to check the railroad’s website for availability.)
The Santa Express departs from Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad’s depot and travels to the “North Pole” and back, a one hour and fifteen minute ride.
In the spirit of the holiday, everyone is encouraged to wear their pajamas on the train, but this is not required. Children may bring a small stuffed animal with them as well.
Upon boarding the train, you’ll be greeted by your car attendant, who will read a story called "Santa’s Scenic Valley Ride."
Helpful elves will walk up and down the train’s aisles, showing pictures from the book up close as the story is read. Upon arrival at the “North Pole,” Santa will board the train.
He’ll walk through the train, greeting each child and handing out bells.
Everyone will enjoy cookies and sipping hot chocolate as Santa greets the children.
After Santa has greeted each child, he’ll deboard the train at his “workshop,” where he’ll wave goodbye to all of the train’s passengers.
On the trip back home, everyone will sing holiday songs, tell holiday riddles and jokes, and even have a pajama fashion show.
The Boone & Scenic Railroad Depot is located at 225 10th St., Boone, IA. The Santa Express will be running from November 23rd through December 16th, 2018, and tickets are on sale now. You can visit their website for more details on times, dates and purchasing tickets.
