Christmas is one of the most magical times of year, and there are many amazing Christmas festivals going on all over Iowa. From light displays to visits with Santa to hot chocolate and cookies, there are so many fun things to experience. 1. Le Mars
Le Mars features the magical Pioneer Village Christmas Wonderland. There are many fun activities to partake in, including horse-drawn sleigh rides, a live nativity scene and live music. You can also roast marshmallows and sip hot chocolate around a campfire in the snow. 2. Wyoming
Wyoming goes all out at Christmas, and it’s especially well known for the stunning 4-block canopy of Christmas lights on the town's Main Street. The street is also decked out with 40 lit Christmas trees. If you’re looking to get into the Christmas spirit, Wyoming is a great place to visit.
3. Anamosa
Anamosa’s decked out Main Street is a great place for Christmas festivities. There are plenty of events to enjoy, including Holiday Magic on Main, an event to kick off the holiday season on November 25th & 26th. There’s also the Christmas Tree Walk, a magical walk through over 60 lit and decorated Christmas trees. 4. Orange City
This charming little town has an annual tradition when the Dutch Sinterklaas (Santa Claus) visits Orange City. This celebration takes place on the first Saturday of December. You’ll see Sinterklaas arrive on a white horse, and there will be fun activities, like Dutch games and a puppet show.
5. Amana
The Amana Colonies have an amazing Tannenbaum Forest every year, with a display of over 40 Christmas trees. This display will be open from November 25th through December 18th, Friday through Sunday.
6. Boone
The Boone & Scenic Valley Railway's Santa Express is a fun Christmas activity for you and your children and grandchildren. Get dressed in your PJs on and take the Santa Express. 7. Winterset
Winterset is a magical place to celebrate Christmas. Make sure to check out the Black Friday Festival of Lights on November 25th, with a visit from Santa, Christmas parade, live music and more.
8. Mount Pleasant
This festive and fun train ride is a great way to celebrate Christmas with your family. You’ll take a train ride to the "North Pole," get your picture taken with Santa, make ornaments and more. The historic Villages of Van Buren are a charming place to visit any time of year, but Christmas is especially so. You’ll want to make sure to visit Santa's Castle in Storm Lake in the historic Carnegie Library. Expect to meet Santa Claus himself, see animated elves, browse antique Christmas toys and gifts and more.
