Fans of all things Amish, this one's for you! Indiana is well-known for being well within Amish country, and the Amish are well-known for being kind, amazingly hospitable people that truly enjoy sharing their hard work with the world. In honor of these folks, we've put together a wonderful, scenic road trip to visit five of the best Amish businesses in Indiana. Along the way, you'll discover restaurants, bakeries, shops, and more. The total drive time is just under six hours - perfect for a day trip or breaking into segments across multiple days (it just depends on how much time you wish to spend at each stop). To follow along, check out the official Google Maps directions! What places would you add to this delightful road trip in Indiana? Let us know.
1. We will begin our adventure at Menno-Hof, an educational center that aims to teach the public all about the faiths - and lives - of the Amish and Mennonite people.
What better way to begin an Amish appreciation road trip than by learning as much as we can first? This educational and titillating Amish museum in Indiana is sure to teach you things you never knew, bringing your appreciation for Amish folks to a new level.
2. While in Shipshewana, we HAVE to check out Brandenberry Amish Furniture, which prides itself on being the best of the best.
The flawless craftsmanship associated with Amish furniture is a stereotype for a reason - Amish products tend to be ridiculously sturdy and brilliantly made, and the wares at this Amish furniture store are almost unmatched. Make sure you do this trip in a vehicle that will allow you to bring a little something home - this shop specializes in gorgeous, modern home décor that's built to last.
3. Next, we roll up to Troyer's Country Store, a favorite stop for locals and travelers alike.
This is a fun one (not that the other entries on this list aren't fun)! Troyer's Country Store doesn't even have a website - that's how you know it'll be a one-of-a-kind experience to visit. You'll find an assortment of Amish-made goodies like candy, meats, and cheeses, as well as lots of other products you won't find anywhere else.
4. We hope you have an appetite, because the next stop is next-level deliciousness.
If Only In Your State gave out an award for the "most delicious looking photo gallery" on a website, the goods up for grabs at Rise 'n Roll Bakery in Greenwood - and its Facebook page filled with mouthwatering imagery of the amazingness you can expect here - would be the all-time winner. Walk into this Amish bakery in Indiana and inhale, deeply, through your nose. Smell that? Oh, yes. That's only the best.
5. Finally, we end our journey at Gasthof Amish Village (so we hope you're still hungry).
An excellent way to end this adventure is by having dinner at Gasthof Amish Village. Enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals and some of the friendliest service you'll ever experience. We're not entirely sure how you're going to make this one work, given the previous stop - maybe buy one of everything at Rise 'n Roll and save it for dessert! We have faith in you. You'll figure it out.
There you have it: a fun, delicious road trip to some of Indiana's best Amish businesses. We strongly encourage supporting local businesses, and these ones are easily the A-team that we recommend. Which Amish businesses in Indiana would you add to this list? Let us know in the comments.
