We're all pretty proud of small-town Indiana. Most of us grew up in a tiny town ourselves and many of us still live in a small town. Small Hoosier towns offer some of the most interesting activities, have some of the most beautiful scenery, and house some of the nicest people you've ever met. If you're looking for a new tiny town to explore with tons to do, you'll definitely want to visit Metamora.
Metamora is especially fun to visit in the warmer months, but there's plenty to do there, even when it's cold and snowy.
Metamora, Indiana is a tiny town in Franklin County, on the east side of our state. This charming place is only home to around 188 residents but offers a bustling environment for visitors and tourists.
Like many small Indiana towns, Metamora has a lovely covered bridge, although this bridge is a little different than most. It's actually housed over their infamous canal, dubbed the Metamora Aqueduct Covered Bridge.
On warmer days, you can actually take a boat ride on the canal, pulled by horses. It's quite charming and offers you the best view of Metamora.
While Metamora isn't a large place to visit, you'll find many historic buildings, local shops, and old homes worth exploring.
In fact, you'll find plenty of local shopping here and many shops and restaurants are open year-round. Granny's Ice Cream and Cookie Jars and the Smelly Gourmet are just a couple of the businesses that keep their doors open all year.
There's even a working grist mill available for you to explore. This building was reconstructed in 1900 after the original mill shelter was destroyed by a fire.
Starting in May, there's even a train that departs from Connersville and stops in Metamora for a few hours so that visitors can enjoy all of the local shopping, food, activities, and sights of this small town.
Metamora also has a gem mine, horseback riding, carriage rides, and hiking trails. You'll never run out of fun in this small town!
