Here at Only In Your State, we've covered our fair share of haunted places, but this one is unique: this one is an entire haunted town! Angola, Indiana history is quite colorful.
Once known as the "anti-church" town in Indiana, it was known for its brothels and a strange local legend: one could communicate with the dead here through a medium. In that sense, Angola was special.
Three influencial women early on in Angola's history were self-professed witches.
It was whispered among villagers that the women could perform miracles and would practice black magic in the town square. Once upon a time, these women may or may not have accidentally released a demon into the town.
....whoops.
To this day, Angola is said to be full of ghosts, ghouls and spooky things. It is claimed that the center of the activity is the Wing Haven Nature Preserve, where the witches allegedly summoned the demon.
If you're brave enough, take a walk through Circle Hill Cemetery, or check out the eerie energy at the Strand Theatre.
Several homes in Angola are claimed to be haunted by everything from small children to bizarre figures in black that absolutely terrify onlookers who see them.

A town full of ghosts, sure. But there's still a few thousand folks who call Angola home, despite the creepy guests.
