Here in Illinois, we don't have to fear some of the craziness that other states face--like hurricanes (seriously, how do you people even deal?!)--but we have plenty of our own drama to deal with. So if you want to survive in Illinois, you've got to have some essentials:
1. A shovel
You definitely need a shovel for those long winter months.
2. Tolerance for traffic
Whether it's city traffic or a country road backed up behind a tractor, there's traffic everywhere.
3. The ability to drive around potholes
Lord knows there are plenty of them
4. Layers
You must have lots of clothes are your disposal for the changing weather
5. Blue and Orange Clothing
Plenty of Illinoisians have Bears or Illini clothing
6. Allergy medicine
All those corn fields can cause some pretty bad allergies during harvest season
7. Quality winter boots
Dealing with the snow, you're going to need a solid pair of boots
8. A winter coat
Can't survive cold Illinois winters without one

9. Bug spray
While it's cold and snowy a lot of the year, the months that it's temperate are pretty buggy.
10. A sense of humor
Whether it's crazy politicians, extreme weather or just nutty people, you just have to roll with the punches
