Here in Idaho, we like to embrace the opportunities given to us in wintertime. Instead of hiding inside for the entirety of the season, we prefer to get out there and immerse ourselves in the elements. In fact, there's one small Idaho town that does just that every winter by throwing an enchanting snow sculpture festival. Teams of both amateur and professional snow sculptors gather every year to transform the town of Driggs with beautiful snow art. These massive snow sculptures are downright impressive and will leave you in complete awe, so plan to see them for yourself this year!
Every year, the small town of Driggs hosts one of the season's most unique events. Driggs Snowscapes is a public art competition in which teams sculpt snow into beautiful creations, and it's something you'll definitely want to see this winter.
Presented by the Downtown Driggs Association, Driggs Snowscapes has been delighting visitors since 2012. The competition will feature up to ten different teams who will completely transform the city's plaza into a beautiful snowscape.
Snow is a natural resource that is definitely in abundance in Eastern Idaho during this time of year. It's amazing to think that it's even possible to create a piece of art with nothing but snow, but the snow sculpting teams continue to blow us away with the amazing creations that they come up with.
Seriously, some of the snow sculptures are truly unbelievable! After all, the teams have a great incentive to go as big and bold as possible. The competition's top winners will go home with up to $2,000 in awards—not to mention the pride of creating a masterful snow sculpture.
The annual "Stomp the Snow" event kicks off the festivities each year. This unique event marks the festival's unofficial kickoff as the community comes together to stomp the snow blocks for the sculptures. Free chili, cornbread, and hot drinks are provided.
Snow sculptors have a few days to perfect their creations, and guests are more than welcome to view the artists at work. In fact, visitors will even have the opportunity to try snow sculpting themselves with the assistance of a professional.
Voting takes place on the festival's final day and is followed by the annual Snow Ball at Driggs City Center. The Snow Ball is a gigantic party that marks the perfect ending to an incredible week.
