Many people unfamiliar with Idaho's unique culture and beauty wouldn't think that our state has much in the way of world-class...well, anything. But Idaho actually tops the globe in a number of things, world-class skiing opportunities included. But perhaps one of our most impressive man-made achievements is this: Idaho is home to the longest single-stage gondola lift in the world. Forget the Alps or a trip to Vail; this world record-holding gem runs year-round and is open to all ages. This is one attraction you definitely don't want to miss!
Historic Kellogg, Idaho holds a truly special place in Idaho's history.
The Silver Valley is home to a number of unique communities with a rich history of mining, logging, and intercontinental railroads. It's a scenic 2,600-square mile playground, with Silver Mountain standing watch over much of it.
But just walking through town, it's easy to see that there is something a little different about this hidden gem.
Namely, the enclosed gondola running straight over the town.
The gondola starts at the base of Silver Mountain in downtown Kellogg...
And runs all the way up to the top of the mountain.
But what makes this gondola so special is that it just so happens to also be the LONGEST gondola ride in the world.
Well, the longest single-stage one, that is. At 3.1 miles, this gorgeous ride is a truly exhilarating experience that is a bucket list must-do.
As you travel over 2400 feet up the mountain, dangling above the ground, you'll be treated to breathtaking views like this.
But the best part?
The Silver Mountain Gondola is open during the off-season as well.
Meaning, you don't have to wait for snow to experience breathtaking views like this.
And this...
But you can wait for ski season if you'd like.
If you do, feel free to ski your way down and make the trip all over agein!
A scenic Silver Mountain Gondola ride starts at $14-18 per person and lasts around 20 minutes. At the end of your your journey, you'll also have the option of being treated to a delicious mountaintop meal at the summit, which often features mouth-watering huckleberry ribs. Yes, please!
No trip up to northern Idaho is complete without this breathtaking ride! Who knew our humble little state held such a neat world record? Be sure to check out the Silver Mountain Resort website for all of the details.
