It may be a holiday or you just have some time off of work - regardless, there’s no reason to sit around. When you have gorgeous scenery, incredible state parks, and interesting attractions nearby, there is always something to do. If you are wondering what to add to your itinerary during the next long weekend, we have a few ideas. The following are seven of the best places in Idaho to visit on a long weekend. 1. Lava Hot Springs, Lava Hot Springs
Located in southeast Idaho is one of the most heavenly hot spring resorts in Idaho — Lava Hot Springs. You can easily spend an entire weekend here relaxing in the hot pool, swimming in the indoor aquatic center, and even checking out the Olympic Swimming Complex. If you have some time, walk around town as well — there are cute shops and restaurants lining Main Street that definitely deserve your attention.
2. Redfish lake, Sawtooth Mountains
Redfish Lake is one of the most popular and beloved lakes in the Sawtooth Mountains and for good reason. This lake is absolutely stunning. The water is clean and clear, the mountains are majestic, and the lake is large enough that it’s easy to spread out and take in the view.
3. City of Rocks National Reserve, Almo
City of Rocks National Reserve is one of the coolest places to visit in southern Idaho. Here, you will find the most unique rock formations that attract rock climbers and outdoor lovers alike. While this area is excellent during the summer months, the winter at City of Rocks also provides countless opportunities like sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and more.
4. Route of the Hiawatha, Northern Idaho
If you want to spend your long weekend exploring some of Idaho’s natural beauty and get in a little exercise, the Hiawatha Trail will not disappoint. This is one of the most beautiful rail trails in the entire country and cyclists of all ages will enjoy this adventure. This 15-mile trail will take you through 10 tunnels, more than six trestles, and into thick forest areas. Plus, if you choose to use a shuttle, most of your ride will be downhill!
5. Silver Rapids Indoor Waterpark, Kellogg
A popular place for children and adults, Silver Rapids Indoor Waterpark in Kellogg is the perfect destination for a long weekend in Idaho. This waterpark has a beach-like feel to it and regardless of the weather outdoors, you’ll enjoy a constant temperature of 84 degrees Fahrenheit. From a lazy river to waterslides to a standing wave, there is plenty to do that will keep you busy.
6. Bruneau Dunes State Park
Bruneau Dunes State Park is so much more than a giant sand dune. This state park is home to the tallest free-standing sand dunes in the entire country! Bring your hiking boots and spend the weekend hiking and exploring these dunes, visiting the small bodies of water, and even sledding down the sand — this is a long weekend getaway that the entire family will love.
7. Island Park
No matter if you are looking for a long weekend getaway where you can relax or that will keep you busy from sunrise to sunset, Island Park can offer it to you. This small town near Yellowstone is an outdoor lover’s paradise with hiking, camping, and fishing opportunities galore. Near Island Park, you can visit Yellowstone National Park, Harriman State Park, or even Mesa Falls. If you just want to relax, take a drive down Main Street, which is 33 miles long and currently holds the title of the "longest Main Street in America."
