Our road trip begins outside of the tiny town of Almo at the City of Rocks National Preserve. This area is home to some of the most incredible rock formations that you can explore. You can spend your time hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, or capturing gorgeous images with your camera. Depending on the time of year that you visit, camping in City of Rocks is a must-do activity. You’ll sleep right next to some majestic rock formations and the night sky here is breathtaking.
2. Balanced Rock, Buhl
Balanced Rock is one of the most photographed landmarks in the Gem State. This unique rock formation is certainly not small - it stands at over 48 feet tall and weighs more than 40 tons. During your stop, visit Balanced Rock Park and enjoy a picnic lunch or even set up camp at one of the primitive campsites.
3. Shoshone Falls, Twin Falls
Shoshone Falls is one of the most well-known landmarks in Idaho. This area is made up of multiple cascades that stretch more than 900 feet wide and 212 feet high. 4. Perrine Memorial Bridge, Twin Falls
The Perrine Memorial Bridge is one of the most well-known bridges in Idaho. This bridge stands more than 486 feet above the Snake River and is 1,500 feet long. 5. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, Near Arco
Craters of the Moon is one of the most unique landscapes in Idaho. This area is essentially large fields of hardened lava flow. During your visit, make sure to stop by the Robert Limbert Visitor’s Center to learn all about the lava flow and the history of the area. You’ll also want to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to hike and explore the caves. If you simply want to stay in your vehicle, take a drive on the 7-mile Loop Road, which will give you some awesome views of the lava flow in the area.
6. Bald Mountain, Sun Valley
Bald Mountain is one of the more well-known mountains in Idaho. This mountain is part of the Smoky Mountains in the Sawtooth National Forest. It is also one of the mountains you can explore at Sun Valley Ski Resort. During the winter, this mountain comes alive with skiers and snowboarders. During the summer, you can hike, mountain bike, and more. If you aren’t in the mood for such heart-racing activities, spend the day relaxing at the Sun Valley Lodge or exploring the historic village.
7. Redfish Lake
There’s no doubt that Redfish Lake is one of the most beautiful and scenic lakes in Utah. It is the perfect final destination on our epic road trip. Redfish Lake is the largest lake in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and it is a gorgeous place to boat, swim, or fish.
