I love both small towns and history. When you combine the two, you have the ultimate getaway destination. Star, Idaho is one small town with a rich history but it is often overlooked by other cities in the Treasure Valley. However, this community is charming and beautiful, and has plenty to offer locals and out-of-town guests alike.
Star is located in northwestern Ada County. It is one of the faster growing communities in Treasure Valley and for good reason. Today, approximately 13,000 people call it home.
Star is actually one of the earliest settlements in Treasure Valley. In the 1860s, the first settlers came to the area with others soon following due to the rich farmland located along the Boise River.
Over time, the community became a place to stop for travelers and miners as they made their way to the Boise Basin. Travelers along a branch of the Oregon Trail also ventured here.
The original Star village was actually one mile east of present-day Star and the first schoolhouse was built in the 1870s. When the schoolhouse was complete, a settler made a star and nailed it to the front door, creating an important landmark for travelers and miners and giving the town its name.
Today, when you visit Star, you’ll want to spend some time at Star Riverwalk Park. This 4.7-acre park is located along the Boise River and is the perfect place to spend time outdoors and near the water.
Just a few miles outside of town is Eagle Island State Park. This is one of the most popular state parks in Treasure Valley and is home to all types of activities and amenities including a swimming beach, disc golf course, and lots of hiking trails.
If you are hungry, stop by El Mariachi Loco Restaurant. This is a popular Mexican restaurant where individuals will drive quite a distance to take a bite of its delicious food.
Make sure you plan a visit to Sol Invictus Vineyard. Not only is this vineyard beautiful, but you may just find your new favorite glass of wine.
Star, Idaho is beautiful, historic, and enchanting — definitely not a town in Treasure Valley you should overlook. You’ll love a visit here and may never want to leave.
