You already probably know that some Georgia towns have the weirdest names such as Ty Ty or Jot Em' Down, but do you know the stories behind the names? Here are 15 Georgia towns with names that most people don't know the meanings behind:

1. Daisy, GA

Daisy is a city in Evans County and was named after the daughter of Thomas Jefferson in 1890.

2. Ty Ty, Georgia

Ty Ty is a city in Tift County and was named after the trees that once lined the Ty Ty Creek.

3. The Rock, GA

Back in the day when stagecoaches delivered mail, the only safe place to drop the mail in this town was a huge boulder with a cleft in the side that made it possible for mail to be kept safe and dry until retrieved. "Going to the rock to get the mail" became a common expression and ever since the name of this city was set in stone!

4. Santa Claus, GA

Yes, there's actually a town called Santa Claus. It's located in Toombs County with a small population of 165 people. As if the name wasn't enough, the town has several Christmas themed streets such as Candy Cane Road, December Drive, Ruldoph Way, Prancer Street and others. What a perfect town for the Christmas holiday!

5. Talking Rock, GA

The origin of this town's name is a little vauge. Some believe the name originated from Indians, others believes it originated from the noise of water rolling over the rocks in the town's creek, while others believe the name came from people meeting and chatting it up with their neighbors at the rock. Who knows? They all sound like pretty plausible ideas to me.

6. Ideal, GA

The story behind Ideal, GA is a little humorous. Originally this town was named Joestown, but when two railroad executives stopped through, they thought the place was "ideal" for a railroad station. Ever since they've just been calling it Ideal! It's located in Macon County.

7. McDonough, GA

The town with the name that sounds like McDonalds, ( a common joke for people visiting McDonough for the first time.) McDonough is the county seat of Henry County and was named after Commodore Thomas MacDonough, a war hero.

8. Willacoochee, GA

Willacoochee is actually an Indian word meaning "Home of the Wildcat". Before its current name, it was called Danielsville after a family that resided there.

9. Flintstone, GA

Flintstone is an unincorporated town in Walker County just 12 miles away from Chattanooga. The town was named after the Flintstone Herb Company.

10. Boneville, GA

Boneville is an unincorporated town in McDuffie County, GA and it was named after investor Jones Bones.

11. Butts County, GA

Butts County was not named after what you're thinking its named after! It was actually named in honor of General Samuel Butts.

12. Doctortown, GA

Doctortown is located in Wayne County, pictured above. It was also the site of a major Civil War battle. Some believe the name of this town may have derived from the Muskogean Indian word "Aleckcha," meaning doctor.

13. Meansville, GA

Meansville doesn't have as interesting a story as every other town on this list--it was named after homesteader John Means.

14. Jot Em Down, Georgia

Jot Em Down Georgia is an unincorporated town in Pierce County. It got its name after the Jot Em Down General store. Unfortunately the store has been long gone, but the legacy of its name continues on in this small town.
