Why do so many people love small towns? Obviously, there's a lot more to enjoy in our bigger cities. They've got great culture, more restaurants, more attractions, and plenty of new people to meet. But there's so much to love about small towns in Georgia, too. They offer so much peace and quiet. There are quite a few small towns in the Peach State that offer serene scenes, calm communities, and beautiful surroundings. We all feel stressed by the hustle and bustle of everyday life at times. If you've ever thought about moving away to a smaller town in order to get away from your worries, some of the places on this list just might convince you.

1. Washington, Georgia (2020 population: 3,946)

Washington is a small city in Wilkes County with under 4,000 residents. It's one of the most historic small towns in Georgia,

with many beautiful old antebellum buildings. If you're looking for somewhere to relax while unwinding and enjoy the quiet, slow-paced, small town life, Washington is it. Amazingly enough, it was actually once the state capital when it was known as Heard's Fort during the Revolutionary War.

2. Woodstock, Georgia (2020 population: 32,000)

It's considerably bigger than most of the places we're mentioning on this list, but we have got to say, Woodstock is such a peaceful town. You'll find great farmers markets and festivals and a close-knit community. It's one of our favorite suburbs of Atlanta. It's only 30 miles outside of the big city, but you'll feel like you entered a small town oasis here.

3. Grovetown, Georgia (2020 population: 14,777)

Grovetown is in Columbia County, right outside of the metropolitan area of Augusta. Not many people know about this small town spot, so it remains peaceful and calm. It's filled with a great community spirit and a family-friendly vibe. As an added bonus, it regularly appears on lists of the safest cities in Georgia.

4. Clermont, Georgia (2020 population: 964)

The population of Clermont has not been over 1,000 in decades. It's tucked away in quiet Hall County and boasts big community ties and wholesome families. This is a great place to hunker down and live the simple life away from it all. If you visit, make sure to stop by Mountain Fresh Creamery fr some of the best ice cream in Georgia.

5. Roopville, Georgia (2020 population: 491)

Not many people have heard of Roopville. This small town has a total area of only 0.77 square miles, so it's no wonder that it's so quiet! With under 500 people here, this is an extremely peaceful little town. It's in Carroll County, up in the northwestern corner of the state.

6. Hogansville, Georgia (2020 population: 3,165)

Tucked away in Troup County, you'll find Hogansville, a quiet little town of around 3,000 citizens. This place has been called one of the most beautiful small towns in Georgia and is definitely worth a visit for a quiet, relaxing weekend.

7. Blairsville, Georgia (2020 population: 725)

Blairsville is extremely beautiful and very quiet. It's nestled snugly in the mountains and is the county seat of Union County. It's the type of town that's perfect for a peaceful mountain getaway to enjoy some solitude and serenity. It's truly a quintessential example of a Georgia mountain town.

8. Blue Ridge, Georgia (2020 population: 1,168)

Blue Ridge is another lovely mountain town. Nature and beauty completely encompass this entire town. It's a peaceful spot that draws folks from all over Georgia, particularly during the fall. It's one of the best places for a weekend trip in Georgia.

9. Eatonton, Georgia (2020 population: 6,661)

Eatonton is a quaint historical spot with tons of opportunities for shopping, dining, and historical architecture. It's in Putnam County and is just outside of the Oconee National Forest, so there's tons of beautiful scenery here, too!
