Spending time in Georgia for those coming in out of state usually involves the bigger cities—Savannah, Atlanta, Augusta, Macon. But what many people are missing out on are the smaller towns in Georgia, those that give the state the character it deserves. So for anyone planning a trip to Georgia soon, or for those who are residents who are looking for a new town to explore, add this little gem to the radar.
Moultrie, Georgia is a small town within Colquitt County, which was incorporated in the mid 1800s.
The city was named after General William Moultrie, a revolutionary war hero and South Carolina governor who received the utmost recognition with this small town.
The small town is filled with a wonderful dose of history—including the county courthouse which was built in 1902 and listed on the National Register of Historic places.
But it isn’t just history within Moultrie—there is also the largest farm show in the United States, held annually, called The Sunbelt Agriculture Exposition.
Also held annually are the Festival on the Square, Calico Arts and Crafts Shows, and Scottish Festival.
So it goes without saying that there is always something to enjoy within this small town.
However, perhaps the best part about visiting Moultrie is the community spirit—the charm of the small and the fact that everyone will greet you like they are your next door neighbor.
Stroll the Downtown Moultrie area, where you can shop at over 20 different speciality shops, restaurants, and businesses all in one place.
And if you work up an appetite exploring, make sure to check out the scrumptious fried chicken at The Hen House or the satisfying BBQ at The Bar-B-Q Pit.
Plan a trip to Moultrie, Georgia and discover what you’ve been missing all along.
