There's something so special about those sorts of tiny, down-home spots, often found in small towns, that are no-frills but absolutely delicious, isn't there? It can sometimes feel like chain restaurants are taking over the world, and while those are certainly tasty and have great meals, I make a point to try to buy locally whenever possible. If you are in the little town of Hull, population 233, just outside of Athens, one wonderful place to keep your dollars local is Angie's Place. This breakfast place is far from fancy, but it has some of the most delicious and biggest biscuits around. Check it out:
I had driven by Angie's Place a ton of times, but had never actually stopped by until recently. The parking lot is always packed.
When I say packed, I mean packed. There are typically cars in every surrounding parking lot, plus on the sidewalks.
Inside, you'll find a pretty straightforward setup, with plastic tables that even strangers were gathering around together.
The menu is basic breakfast food. There's nothing fancy here, but there's plenty for anyone to enjoy.
I opted for a cheese biscuit and hash brown with cheese grits.
Everyone's plate that I spotted looked quite full, and the prices were very reasonable, especially for the amount of food you got.
As a Georgia native, I consider myself something of a biscuit connoisseur, and these biscuits are amazing.
Between the perfect texture and the huge size, these are easily some of the best biscuits near Athens, GA.
This place is pretty old-fashioned and doesn't have a website or Facebook page. You can find Angie's Place at 10336 Hull Colbert Rd, Hull, GA 30646, and the phone number is (706) 546-6141.
I love Athens, and one of my favorite things about it is all the wonderful little towns that surround it, like Hull. If you're looking to explore the area, the Classic City is a great home base. Check out The Graduate Athens for a great place to stay in Athens.
