Remember those days when you had a break from your regular school day, and were able to let loose somewhere special in your state? Georgia was perfect for field trips, because there were so many different options for the school systems to choose from. We've come up with a list of some of the most memorable Georgia field trips most of us took while we were kids, and perhaps a few we should retake now as adults.
1. The Atlanta History Center
The History Center in Atlanta not only includes one of the Southeast's largest history museums, but also two historic sites: Swan House and Tullie Smith farm. It's barely enough time to spend the day exploring all the cool historic sites here.
2. Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site
So many schools and classes have been through the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. It's such a great place to teach an important history lesson, all the while supporting one of the greatest advocates for change and equality of our generation.
3. Museum of Aviation
This history museum mixes a bit of science with a bit of history. This museum and educational center contains over 90 aircrafts and plenty of exhibits for you to get absorbed or for your 11-year-old to geek out on.
4. The Okefenokee Swamp
This biosphere of science and nature was an awesome field trip. It combined the beauty of nature with the knowledge of wildlife and made you love the state of Georgia just a little bit more.
5. CNN Center News Studio
The CNN Studio Tour is a great way to teach kids about the importance of TV News broadcasting, and also give them a bit of journalistic insights into the world.
6. The World of Coca-Cola
This has to be one of the most fun field trips for kids to take, because it's here that you learn alllll about Georgia's favorite pop drink.
7. Kennesaw Civil War Museum
This is a popular field trip for many Georgia schools because they detail one of the greatest locomotive chase in history, plus dive into Civil War History as well.
8. Dahlonega Gold Museum
When kids are learning about the Gold Rush, they can hop on over to Dahlonega Gold Museum and have an interactive tour of where it all began. Remember how exciting it was to learn that all that gold came from Georgia?
9. Callaway Gardens
It isn't all about botany and science in Callaway Gardens. Students also visit a pioneer cabin, complete with authentic furnishings that allow for a sense of what life must have been like for the families that lived there in the 1800s.
10. Fernbank Arts and Sciences Museum of Natural History
One of the most popular field trips for Georgians, this museum provides a history of our state, both past and present, mixed with the fun of a planetarium and sky observatory.
Have you been on any of these field trips? We'd love to hear which was your favorite!
