Although living in a tourist state has its advantages, we've all experienced moments when we wished that a beautiful beach or famous attraction was a little less crowded (or a lot less crowded). The good news is that there are plenty of relaxing, scenic, and fun things to do away from crowds in Florida. We are talking about places where you can enjoy the Sunshine State without bumping elbows with a hundred other people trying to do the same thing. Dinosaur World is a fun and educational park conveniently located halfway between Tampa and Orlando. There are hundreds of life-size sculptures and interactive exhibits to encourage kids (and adults) with an interest in dinosaurs. This park is much less crowded (and less expensive) than our bigger parks.
These lush tropical gardens were the original site of the Parrot Jungle park you might remember from the mid '30s through the early 2000s. Bring the whole family and enjoy the gardens, petting zoo, splash pool, butterfly exhibit, and more.
This small strip of land between St. Joseph Bay and the Gulf of Mexico in Gulf County is treasured as one of the most spectacular unspoiled stretches of land in the state.
This peaceful oasis was the home and studio of artist Anne Norton, and her work can be viewed inside the home as well as throughout the impressive garden.

Few things are more tranquil and meditative than a bonsai, and this attraction in Fort Pierce features a large and impressive bonsai collection, along with several other lovely garden rooms.
What could be a better way to relax than a day of sightseeing, paddling, hiking, and fishing in this 1,500-acre coastal mangrove? This is a wonderful way to experience Florida's natural beauty.
This scenic, shady public park sits on Lake Maitland and provides a lovely escape for a mid-day walk or a picnic.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, being born and raised in Miami comes with many advantages...as well as disadvantages. This especially rings true during the holidays. Advantage - I've actually been on the beach on Christmas before and it was cool and breezy. Disadvantage, I've never woken up to fresh snow on the morning of Christmas. While there are many things I can wax poetic about in terms of Christmas in Florida, I truly feel there is no place like my hometown of Miami for the holidays.

For a tropical city, people really put in the effort to bring the holiday magic in terms of decor and lights. It's hard to walk down any main road like Lincoln or Ocean and not have a dazzling spectacle to enjoy. Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
