Since Delaware is the First State, it's no surprise that some of our towns are the most historic in America. New Castle, Delaware, is certainly one of them. Plan a trip to this gorgeous town that seems frozen in time to step back into Colonial America. We know you'll agree that it is one of the most charming historic towns in Delaware!
New Castle is one of the oldest towns in Delaware.
As an originally English colonial town it still retains all of its historic charm.
The architecture here is unlike anywhere else in the state.
On any drive through New Castle, you'll be driving past houses and buildings that are centuries old.
The New Castle Court House Museum is one of the oldest courthouses in the United States.
It was the center of a 12-mile circle that defined the border between Delaware and Pennsylvania.
William Penn's original landing spot in the New World is here in New Castle.
While here you can visit historic Battery Park to see what Penn saw when he first set foot in America.
The Town Green is a small tract of land that was dedicated to the inhabitants of New Castle by William Penn himself in 1701.
The land is still managed by members of the Penn family today, making it one of the most historic spots in Delaware.
Another one of Delaware's most famous churches, Immanuel on the Green, towers over New Castle.
The church was constructed in the early 1700s, and in 1980 a huge fire broke out, damaging the building.
If you want to get the most out of your New Castle visit...
...be sure to stop by Jessop's Tavern for a meal.
This colonial restaurant is set in a 300-year-old building and serves up food just like the meals the earliest European Americans enjoyed right here in Delaware.
We locals think it is one of the best restaurants in Delaware!
