Most people think of Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City, MD when they think of Delmarva beaches, but they're really missing out on the coolest town in the state, and one of the coolest in the country! The tiny town of Dewey Beach is exciting year round, but it really lights up when the weather breaks and the festivals begin! It's so much more than just another Atlantic Ocean beach town - it's the coolest Delaware town, hands down.
Dewey Beach is the perfect place to set up your chair and dip your toes in the surf
The beach is clean and there's plenty of surf to play in between the Lifeguard's flags. Try out skimboarding or boogie boarding, or just enjoy a game of frisbee. Dewey tends to be a little less crowded during the summer months than Rehoboth, and many people appreciate that!
Did you know how much this little town has to offer?
From festivals, to food, to year-round events, Dewey Beach is the coolest Delaware town that you never really noticed.
Starting with the food, of course.
Arugably, the best crab cakes in Delaware are at the famous Woody's beach bar. People come from all over the state to taste their amazing handmade crab cake sandwiches, with no filler, and all flavor. Find these crab cakes at 1904 Coastal Hwy,
Dewey Beach, DE 19971. Beyond Woody's, though, there's an assortment of amazing beach bars, pizza shops and restaurants scattered throughout the town.
Even though it's got a reputation for bieng the party beach, family-friendly events happen here year-round.
There are Monday night movies on the beach, Music and Art festivals, sidewalk sales, and even a festival weekend just for Golden Retreivers! So, don't just think that Dewey is all frat boys chugging Keystone - it's far more than that!
My favorite summer event is the Wednesday Night Bonfire.
The Dagsworthy St. beach hosts family bonfires on Teusday and Wednesday all summer long. The first bonfire is on June 13th, and they run until the end of August. Get there before it starts at 7:00, and be toasty and full of s'mores when the event wraps up at 9:00. The best part? Parking is free from 5-11 PM on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday! Both the bonfire and the movie night events are donation based.
The bar and nightclub scene are the best in the state, and some say the best in the country!
When the sun goes down, Dewey Beach's famous party scene ramps up. From quieter beach bars to loud and rowdy clubs, you'll find your scene here! If you're looking for a great time and
some amazing live music, the Bottle and Cork host local bands and internationally touring acts all summer long. Try to catch the English Beat when they're in town! This particular bar is one of the best rock and roll venues in the country - Jersey friends will be reminded of the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Visit at 1807 Coastal Hwy, Dewey Beach, Delaware.
If you're looking for a quieter evening, Dewey's a great place for surf fishing.
Make sure you've got your surf fishing permit, and hang out on the sand as the sun goes down. Dewey is known for being a great place to cast a line.
What really sets Dewey apart is the sheer number of events and festivals that it hosts!
From Color runs, to Bacon festivals, to the Delaware Music Festival... plus, the best 4th of July Fireworks in the state. You'll never run out of things to do when you visit the coolest town in Delaware. Don't miss the Chihuahua races on May 6th!
Keep track of the Dewey Beach calendar here, so you don't miss out on a great festival. And speaking of great festivals you don't want to miss out on... the the mouthwatering Dewey-Rehoboth Bacon Festival is only two weeks away! Get your tickets now and prepare to really pig out.
