The New York Times recently released its list of 52 Places to Love in 2021. Among the international recommendations of towns in places like England, Greece, India, and Paraguay, a small Connecticut town made the list. Home to approximately 10,000 people, the charming little town of East Haddam is proof that great things do come in small packages. Here are a few of the things that make East Haddam so special.
1. Goodspeed Opera House
The historical Goodspeed Opera House sits on the Connecticut River and shines as the birthplace of some of the most loved musicals of all time. Every production at this theatre is like having a seat on Broadway.
2. Devil's Hopyard State Park
Chapman Falls, located in Devil's Hopyard State Park, is only one of the scenic views you will find in this nature lover's paradise. Whether you're a hiker, camper, or just want to visit the waterfalls for a few hours, your senses will marvel at the natural beauty.
3. Gillette Castle
Originally the home of American actor, William Gillette, the medieval-looking stone mansion continues its own theatrical performance with its beautiful furnishings, secret room, and stunning architecture and grounds.
4. East Haddam swing bridge
Located near the Goodspeed Opera House, the century-old East Haddam swing bridge offers gorgeous views of the Connecticut River and swings open to let large passing boats pass through.
