Visiting one of the many large cities in the Nutmeg State is always a fun trip. There's no end to all the things to do in New Haven or Hartford. But don't let the small towns pass you by! There are so many great small towns in Connecticut where you can have magical adventures. One of our favorites is the delightful little town of Morris, tucked away in Litchfield County. The population is only around 2,000, so you might not think there's too much to do here, but we've got an itinerary of things to do in Morris, CT that will let you have quite the fun day trip. Check it out:
Morris is home to Camp Columbia State Park/State Forest, a peaceful preserve spanning about 600 acres. It was once part of Columbia University's campus and now serves as a public recreation area.
The park has an interesting history. It was used for combat training during World War I, and the trenches used during training are still visible today.
It is said that President Dwight Eisenhower hunted here in the late 1940s, when he was president of Columbia University. Also, the New York Giants have allegedly used the land for practice!
One neat relic at Camp Columbia is the Class of 1906 Tower. The tower only takes a quick 0.75-mile walk to reach.
All that exploring has likely made you work up an appetite, so check out The Deli.
