A list of the richest cities in Connecticut was released by Homesnacks and we think you might be surprised at which places made the list. There are lots of affluent communities in the Nutmeg State, and some of them are unassuming. Unexpectedly, after looking at the median income of residents, along with poverty levels and unemployment rates, we found that wealth is spread throughout the state. To keep this list focused on city-sized spots, only communities with more than 9,000 people were considered, including the lovely Norwalk, Connecticut.
1. Milford
Milford grabbed the top place in this list of richest cities. In a city with a population of 52,005, the median income came in at $81,971. Other factors influencing the ranking of this city included an unemployment rate of 6.6% and a poverty rate of 7.1%. Milford, Connecticut is definitely a great place to live for those who are doing well financially.
2. Shelton
Shelton places in the number two spot with a median income of $87,277. While the income number is higher than that of Milford, the higher unemployment rate of 7.9% gives this city a solid second place. If you live in Shelton, Connecticut, it's fair to say you are living in a fabulous town!
3. Norwalk
Fairfield County's Norwalk, CT is the third richest city in the Nutmeg State. The median income is $80,896. The unemployment and poverty rates are 7.9% and 8.5% respectively. There is a good reason that Norwalk was listed as one of the best places to live in America.
4. Stamford
Also in Fairfield County, the waterfront city of Stamford is ranked 4th on the list. The median income in this city is $81,634. The unemployment rate is 8.0% and the poverty rate is 8.9%. Stamford, Connecticut has so much to recommend it, from its convenient location to its many charming attractions.
5. Danbury
The median income in Danbury is $67,430 helping to secure its 5th place ranking. The unemployment rate is 7.3% while the poverty rate is higher at 11.2%. Danbury, Connecticut has lots of great attributes, from its beautiful buildings to its fun places to eat and shop.
6. Middletown
Middletown, a riverside city south of Hartford, takes the 6th place spot with a median income of $63,828. The unemployment and poverty rates are 6.3% and 11.4% respectively. If you're looking for a fun day trip, you will really enjoy Middletown, Connecticut for its charm and unique places to explore.
7. Bristol
The city of Bristol with a population of 60,437 is ranked number seven. The median income in Bristol is $61,551 while the unemployment rate is 7.8% and the poverty rate is 10.3%. If you love the outdoors, check out the beautiful Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut.
8. Torrington
The largest city in Litchfield County, Torrington, grabs the number eight spot. Its median income is $58,717. The unemployment rate is 8.6% and the poverty rate is 10% in this city. Torrington, Connecticut makes for a lovely place to live or visit for a fun getaway.
9. Naugatuck
With a median income of $59,522, Naugatuck took ninth place. The unemployment rate in this city is 10% and the poverty rate is 9.6%. Whittemore Glen State Park in Naugatuck, Connecticut features some of the most stunning natural beauty you'll find anywhere.
10. Groton
Groton rounds out the list of richest cities in the number ten spot. $55,137 is the median income in this city while the unemployment and poverty rates are 7.5% and 13.4% respectively.
