We talk a lot about natural wonders here at Only In Connecticut, and there are certainly plenty of natural wonders in the Nutmeg State to enjoy! However, we also have plenty of man-made attractions that you would be remiss to ignore. Our bridges, unique works of architecture, statues, and other man-made wonders can be just as impressive as our waterfalls and rock formations. One structure that's pretty impressive when you think about it is the idea of a bridge. Sure, we might drive across them every day, and they're so common that the novelty has worn off, but when you really stop to consider it, these gravity-defying devices allow us to cross over bodies of water, and that's pretty cool. One noteworthy bridge in Connecticut is Bull's Bridge in Kent. Check it out:
The current Bull's Bridge was constructed in 1842, so, as you can imagine, it has quite a bit of history. The single-lane wooden bridge crosses the Housatonic River. It's one of just three remaining authentic covered bridges in Connecticut.
The bridge provides safe passage over the river for countless drivers each year, and it's a memorable drive.
It's pretty impressive that the bridge can still be used by vehicles today! It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
Bull's Bridge aside, this is a charming town with a lot of natural beauty. The area is heavily wooded and popular with hikers and nature enthusiasts.
The town is home to Kent Falls, the state's largest waterfall.
The park that shares its name is a wonderful place for some relaxing time out in nature.
This whole area of the state is quite beautiful, and you'll find several other nearby charming small towns, like Gaylordsville.
Next time you're looking for a few days away in a tranquil region of the state with lots of small towns, the Litchfield Hills area near Kent and Gaylordsville might just be a perfect fit.
