">Perhaps more than any other artist in history, Norman Rockwell is closely associated with the New England region. Born in New York City, he made his name painting idyllic covers for The Saturday Evening Post. They often featured illustrations of everyday life and quintessential New England towns. During his lifetime, he lived in both Massachusetts and Vermont, and it's clear from many of his 4,000+ works that he was heavily influenced by the rolling hills and small towns that dot New England. It should come as no surprise, then, that we have our very own Norman Rockwell town in Connecticut: Salisbury. This little town of 4,100 is located in the picturesque Litchfield Hills, one of my favorite regions of the state. From scenic outdoor spots to old-school architecture, this place looks ripped straight from one of Rockwell's paintings. Check it out:
The town was established in 1741 and is still home to many historic structures today. It's nestled within Litchfield County, a mostly rural county surrounded by gently rolling hills.
No matter the season, the natural beauty here is absolutely magnificent.
I know we can all get a little sick of snow when winter seems to be dragging on forever, but it sure can be beautiful.
There's plenty of green space to entertain nature lovers in Salisbury.
In fact, the Appalachian Trail passes right through the town!
Mount Riga State Park is also in Salisbury, and features miles of hiking trails.
You'll find no shortage of trails in Mount Riga State Park that are just perfect for an outdoor adventure.
There's also plenty for history lovers here.
Salisbury is home to the oldest library in Connecticut. The Scoville Memorial Library's current building was constructed in 1894, and the library itself was formed in 1771.
A stroll through town will show you plenty of magnificent (and historic) architecture.
This is such a quaint, charming little town that's a postcard-worthy destination in any season.
Doesn't it seem like it could have easily inspired a Rockwell painting?
