One benefit to the Nutmeg State being on the small side is that it's easy to plan a road trip in Connecticut where you get to see a big portion of the state! This one will take you through a much of western Connecticut, with a total driving time of just under four hours.
Your first stop will be at the Glass House. This is one of the most remarkable pieces of architecture in Connecticut. It's located in a 200-acre park that has quite a few interesting buildings on the property. The work is the brainchild of Philip Johnson, one of the most celebrated American architects of all time. Yale University is not only one of the top colleges in the country, but this Ivy League school is also considered one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. The campus has so many gorgeous, historic buildings. Due to its prominence as a major university, there are plenty of amenities that the public can enjoy nearby. Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, 157 Wooster St, New Haven, CT 06511
New Haven's Frank Pepe Pizzeria is on many diners' restaurant bucket lists in Connecticut. It's been named the best pizza in America on multiple occasions and its Italian roots date back to 1925.
It's such a charming and historical spot that you won't want to miss. Make sure to arrive early if you're stopping by for lunch or dinner, as it can get quite crowded.

Mark Twain wrote many of his most famous works while living here, including "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." His 25-room mansion is now a museum that is available for tours. You can find out more about this stunning home on the museum's website.

Did you know that Connecticut is home to the oldest state house in the nation? First opened in 1796, this single building held all three branches of Connecticut's government for nearly 100 years. It's now a history museum with a fascinating curiosities museum on the top floor.

We've got a lot of state parks in Connecticut (139, to be exact), so it was really tough to limit ourselves to just two for this list. Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. As a book lover, there's nothing I love more than checking out a bookstore. Sure, I'm well aware that my "to read" list is getting completely out of hand and unless I quit working, socializing, and pretty much all aspects of my life that aren't reading, I have no hope of ever finishing it. Even so, there's no reason not to try! In all, the trip requires just under three hours of driving time, though you'll want to set aside plenty of time to explore each bookstore and grab a few new reads.
Feeling hungry? Don’t worry, our next stop is the delightful Atticus Bookstore Cafe, where you’ll find sandwiches, salads, and coffee here. The location we featured on this road trip is inside the Yale Center for British Art, a free museum that’s got the largest collection of British art outside of the United Kingdom.
For our next stop, we’ll travel to the adorable little town of Madison. You’ll find plenty of delightful shops here, but one of our favorites has got to be RJ Julia Booksellers.
This two-story bookstore is considered one of the top independent bookstores in the entire country. Author signings and book club meetings are a regular occurrence here.
Bennett's Books is one of those delightful little shops that makes you remember the joys of in-person shopping. I think we're probably all guilty of a little too much online ordering, but this place is so cozy and comfortable that it's hard not to fall in love the second you walk in the door!
No list of bookstores in Connecticut would be complete without mentioning The Book Barn in Niantic, and that's where we'll end our trip. There are actually three separate locations for this massive store, but we're focusing on the main one on this road trip.
This multi-building store houses more than 500,000 books, plus other fun attractions, like art installations and gardens. It doesn't get much better than a visit here!
