Connecticut is loaded with delightful towns from the shoreline to the countryside. But with spring on the horizon and warmer days arriving, you might be longing for a day trip to the shore. By far one of the most endearing places to visit on the coast is the charming town of Guilford.
Guilford has a small town atmosphere and charm. The town green forms the centerpiece surrounded by tree-lined streets showcasing the third largest collection of historic homes in New England.
A quintessential white steepled church looks across the green. Throughout the year, you'll encounter the town's special events and delightful festivals on this expanse of grassy lawn.
Around the green are a quaint cluster of walkable shops, galleries, and markets. Stroll the sidewalks and browse the unique stores or just do some window shopping.
The Marketplace is a small grocery store that has a little deli fixing the most scrumptious sandwiches and other prepared foods. Pick up a picnic lunch and head to the scenic southern end of the town for a meal with a view.
Jacob's Beach is a small but stunning expanse of sandy shore in Guilford. This underrated beach is a wonderful spot to lounge, swim, and enjoy the sights.
You'll also want to check out Guilford's marinas and boatyards. Enjoy the bustling atmosphere of the boats coming in and out of the docks.
Head out into the countryside and you'll be treated to lovely roadside scenery along the way.
Bishop's Orchards has a plentiful farm stand along with pick-your-own seasonal fruits. Also, stop into the bakery to satisfy your sweet tooth or visit the winery for a tour and tasting.
If you only visit one restaurant in this coastal town, make it The Place. Sit on a tree stump and devour a grilled seafood feast at this seasonal eatery.
Guilford is sandwiched between the shoreline towns of Madison and Branford. Enjoy a day trip to this charming coastal locale and you might find you'll never want to leave!
