Towns in northern Connecticut tend to be somewhat underrated. People often visit our beach cities, and you'll find no shortage of great attractions towards the middle of the state and the coast. We think it's unfair that the northern part of the state doesn't get much respect. The Quiet Corner is a wonderful destination right in the northeast corner of the state, but even towards the north-central regions, you can find some great towns. One of our favorites is Windsor, which is only about 15 miles from the state line with Massachusetts. This town was the first English settlement in Connecticut, so it's got plenty of historical attractions, and you'll also find lots of natural beauty, boutique shops, and restaurants. The greater Windsor area includes Windsor Locks and East Windsor, and you can easily plan a weekend trip to the area.
