When the weather's nice and you're feeling up for adventure, few things are better than visiting a state park. I find there's nothing better than stretching my legs on a scenic trail when I need to clear my head from my worries and stresses. There are plenty of amazing state parks in Connecticut and, not surprisingly, many of them are located in our small towns. These towns may not have many residents or much development, but that doesn't mean they aren't home to tons of natural beauty. One of the Nutmeg State's most underrated parks is Hurd State Park in East Hampton, CT. Check it out:
East Hampton is a town of about 12,000 people, so while it's not super-small, it's not among the most populated places in the state, either.
It's here that you'll find the magnificent Hurd State Park, spanning nearly 1,000 acres along the Connecticut River.
The park lies right alongside George Dudley Seymour State Park, making this a huge protected area with incredible scenery.
There are miles of trails on the premises, with options for mountain biking and hiking.
The park is beautiful in any season.
The trails are very well-marked and lead to some pristine views. It's advised to stick to the marked trails so that you don't get lost.
Note that this area does get pretty muddy after rains, so wear appropriate footwear and visit during a dry spell, if possible.
This state park in a small town in Connecticut is such a great place to experience some time outside!
