If you hail from the Mile High City, you have a lifelong knowledge about the way things work and how people act when they live in Denver. Are you new to the area? Great! Here is your crash course to living in Denver, via this list of things that all Denverites want to tell newcomers:
1.) You will NEVER want to drive on I-25 during rush hour...
Let's face it; it is the only major road that runs north and south through the state, so you probably want to avoid this cluster of a road at ALL times.
2.) ...or on I-70 during ski season.
Unlike I-25, I-70 isn't *too* terrible during the off-season... just don't mess with it during the late fall/winter/early spring.
3.) A true Denverite orders their food Colorado-style...
Colorado-style=smothered in a homemade green chile.
(In case you didn't know, green chile is great on EVERYTHING, from burritos to eggs to blueberry pie.)
4.) ...dips their pizza in honey...
What; you've never dipped your crust in honey? Then you have obviously never experienced the soft and pillowy goodness that is Beau Jo's and their thick, Mountain-style crust.
5.) ...and orders only local microbrews*.
*Unless, of course, you are out-of-state and have no choice but to go domestic, in which case you opt for either a Coors Light or PBR.
6.) Sorry, but Denver isn't really in the mountains.
Just a little FYI before you move here... however, despite Denver not being in the mountains, they are less than an hour away and give us a pretty killer backdrop for our already beautiful skyline!
7.) The cost of living is crazy high...
Unfortunately, the rumors are true: the cost of living in Denver is high, so when you move here, expect to pay an average of $1,050/month for a 500-square-foot studio apartment (via).
8.) ...and so are your neighbors.
In case you didn't know, recreational marijuana is legal throughout the state of Colorado and brought in a whopping $150M in taxes in 2015 (via).
9.) Casa Bonita may look cool, but don't do it.
Cliff divers, all-you-can-eat Mexican food, and a huge arcade sounds fun, right? But do you know what isn't fun? The crippling stomach bug you will most likely come down with after that All-You-Can-Eat Deluxe Chicken Dinner.
10.) Brunch isn't a meal, but a way of life...
Do you need to find a Denverite between 11 am to 2 pm on a weekend? Look no further than Snooze, Root Down, or Denver Biscuit Company.
11.) ...as is our love of the Denver Broncos.
Win or lose (which was the case last year), we love our boys in orange and blue, and will cheer them on no matter what!
12.) Finally, Denverites will take their bike whenever possible.
Whether it is to work, brunch, or -- of course -- the Broncos game, we prefer to ride our bike down one of our many designated bike lanes.
