Are you looking to make new memories or begin a new tradition this winter? If you are like us, you enjoy skiing and taking long winter hikes, but crave something new from time to time. If this sounds like you and you hail from Colorado, we suggest trying something completely different this winter and taking in the massive snow and ice sculptures in the small town of Breckenridge:
Taking place January 23 - February 1, 2023, is the 32nd Annual Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships, which have become one of Colorado's most highly anticipated winter events.
Consisting of 12 teams from around the world, the Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championship allows talented sculptors to wow the crowd by transforming 20-ton blocks of snow into jaw-dropping works of art.
As if making a snow sculpture was not challenging enough on its own, the Breckenridge International takes the process one step further by only allowing the artists to use their imagination and a few hand tools, making the end product all the more incredible.
The carving competition takes place in downtown Breckenridge from January 23rd through the 27th, and is open to the public.
Once the sculptures are complete, the entries will be judged and awarded, followed by the Blue River Plaza's transformation into a giant viewing party complete with intricate sculptures, shopping, and more.
For more information on the Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships' schedule of events, competing teams, and general festivities, please visit Go Breck's website.
Admission to the Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships is entirely free, too!
Please note: to help ensure the best environment for artists and viewers, timed entry reservations will be required ONLY on Saturday, Jan. 28. There is no cost for a timed entry, but availability is limited. Spectators can sign up for a Saturday sculpture viewing at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., or 2 p.m.
