Colorado may be considered a western state, but we are still pretty darn close to the Midwest, meaning we share much of the same kindness and hospitality. While you can find this around the Centennial State, there is one town in particular that gives us major Midwestern vibes, which is the one and only Lamar:
Located in southeast Colorado, Lamar is a small town of nearly 8,000 that was once a railroad community and now offers "rural family living at its best with a small-town atmosphere and a strong sense of community."
Featuring a charming Main Street, it doesn't get any more Americana than Lamar, thanks to its many local shops and restaurants.
Like all great towns of the Midwest, Lamar also houses a tremendous agricultural scene, with farming and ranching making up much of the community's economy.
While the Midwest may be considered the center of America, Lamar may be the heart, as it contains 2 major U.S. Highways (U.S. 50 and U.S. 287) that connect Mexico to Canada and the East to the West Coasts.
As if you needed another reason to visit and love Lamar, the town is also home to museums and historic landmarks, the John Martin Reservoir State Park, Two Buttes Trail, and more.
Need we mention that the locals are - dare we say - Midwest nice?
