Colorado is chock-full of quirky and downright unique towns, but if we had to pick just one to call the most unique? It's a tough call, but our vote goes to the small but mighty Paonia, which is not only unique but perfect for an Only in Colorado day trip. Where is Paonia, Colorado? Read on to find out.
Nestled away in the stunning North Fork Valley, Paonia is known for being the "coolest" town in Colorado... and for a good reason.
First settled in 1888, Paonia was originally home to the Ute people and other indigenous tribes before the town expanded and added inns, shops, and restaurants.
Now home to 1,500 residents, Paonia is still home to these mainstays but also offers a thriving arts scene via its resident artists, theaters, and galleries. Downtown Paonia, Colorado will keep you busy for a while!

If you are a foodie, you are also sure to love Paonia, thanks to not only its many local restaurants but wineries and orchards, too.
Depending on when you visit, you may be able to take in one of Paonia's many festivals, too, which include the likes of Paonia Cherry Days, Top O the Rockies BMW Rally, and the Mountain Harvest Festival. There are things to do in Paonia all year long.
As if you needed another reason to visit this “certified Colorado Creative District,” Paonia also boasts a stunning landscape as well as a close proximity to Paonia State Park and other outdoor opportunities.
