There is no arguing that Colorado is one of the best places in the country to fish... but is there a certain town or area in particular that is the best in the state? According to Field and Stream Magazine, there is—and we cannot help but agree for their reasons... and more. Come along as we check out what is also one of the most quiet towns in Colorado and all that it has to offer.
Several years ago, in a piece entitled "The Best Fishing Towns in America," Field & Steam Magazine couldn't help but gush over the beautiful mountain town of Glenwood Springs.
The article said, "You'd be hard-pressed to find a better combination of gold-medal water, blue-sky climate, and stunning canyonscapes anywhere in the world besides Glenwood Springs."
..."It's the geographic center of the best flyfishing in the state...
...The Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers merge right in town, and the Eagle River, the Frying Pan, and the Gunnison are easy day trips," the article went on to say. "In any season (even the dead of winter), there's always at least one world-class fly fishing option."
In addition to the stellar fishing, there is more to love about this charming town of nearly 10,000.
Other Glenwood Springs accolades include being named as the "Most Vibrant Small Town Arts Environment in the United States" by Southern Methodist University and the "5th Best Place to Live in America" by Outsider Magazine!
Founded as Defiance, Colorado in 1883 (and later renamed after being persuaded by the founder's wife), Glenwood Springs is a charming town that is chock-full of history.
Its highlights include the classic Hotel Colorado, Doc Holliday's grave, and Colorado's second busiest train station (which is home to the Amtrak's California Zephyr).
In addition to its rich history, Glenwood Springs is also home to numerous hot springs.
These famous Colorado hot springs have been a huge draw to tourists for more than 100 years.
You'll also find lots for foodies.
The town is home to a number of unique and delicious restaurants and homegrown Colorado breweries...
...and fabulous shopping housed in some of the town's original brick-and-mortar buildings.
In fact, you'll find some of the most charming architecture in Colorado here.
Did we mention that the locals are also extremely friendly and welcoming?
Some things never go out of style!
