As charming as Cleveland can be, its suburbs hold their own appeal. Fewer crowds, a slower pace of life, and an abundance of mom and pop-style shops draw in future residents and visitors alike. However, large cities like Cleveland are surrounded by so many small towns that it can be a challenge to identify which ones are ideal for a day trip. When it comes to history and culture, there's one village near Cleveland that you can't pass up, and that's Mayfield Village.
Want to explore a community with charm, culture, and history? Look to Cleveland's suburbs.
Cleveland is a splendid city, but some have fallen for the charm of the suburbs. Mayfield Village is home to only around 3,500 residents, but visitors pass through the community every day and discover its perks.
There's a lot of unique history in this community, including a small piece of the World Trade Center.
On the First Responders Memorial Trailhead, visitors will find an incredible memorial that contains a 17-foot-tall steel beam from the World Trade Center. Visitors are stunned by this structure, but as it turns out, several village residents volunteered (and some lost their lives) on 9/11.
This community's story seems to be etched into every aspect of its landscape.
This community was incorporated in 1921, having previously existed as a part of the now-defunct Mayfield Township. The community historically catered to farmers, though Mayfield Village has since grown to become the headquarters of the Progressive Corporation—you know, the insurance company responsible for bringing us Flo.
As the history of this community is so vast, the best way to explore it would be through a trip to the local museum.
The Bennett-VanCuren Historical Museum houses the Mayfield Township Historical Society and its collections throughout seven brilliantly restored rooms. The museum is surrounded by lovely manicured gardens, and it's an absolute slice of paradise for history lovers. Learn more here.
