Gas up the car, pack a camera, and some great road trip snacks, then prepare yourself for the prettiest road trip in Greater Cleveland - we're heading into Cuyahoga Valley National Park and this is one road trip you won't be able to resist.
Riverview Road stretches for nearly 20 miles through this park, taking visitors on a journey worthy of revisiting time and time again.
Also known as County Road 9, this route offers one of the best ways to see the Cuyahoga Valley National Park without ever setting foot in it. You'll pass dozens of sites that are worthy of exploring, allowing you the opportunity to scope out future day trips.
Make sure you check out our customizable map before you take off on your drive. Feel free to add a stop or two and change the direction based on your starting point. After all, this is your trip so own it and have fun with it!
All along the road are splendid sites where you can pull over and hike for a bit.
Picnic areas, visitor centers, and even waterfalls are easily accessible via trails just off this road. If you see something you'd like to explore, don't hesitate to stop! Everywhere in this park is splendidly enchanting. There are many good hikes within the park but for a suggestion, we would recommend Blue Hen Falls.
You can also park and take a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, whose tracks are actually visible from the road.
The other incredible way to see the park without hiking is via the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. This railroad operates in every season and it's a magical ride to take.
In the summer, the rolling hills of this road are framed by verdant forests and all sorts of unique and native flora.
You'll spot all sorts of beauty along your drive. Remember not to get too caught up in the scenery - keep your eyes on the road along this winding route. There's no shame in pulling to the side of the road for a photo or two.
And no matter the season, you're likely to spot some local critters during your drive...
Deer are your most likely company on this trip, so be prepared to stop suddenly if they happen to step out into the roadway. If you look to the skies, there are also beautiful birds that have been spotted in the area. Keep your eyes open to possibly spot the mighty American Bald Eagle or plenty of other feathered friends.
...And you'll probably see a pedestrian or two.
Humans and nature thrive all along this drive, and you're likely to find a bit of company on your trek. Pack a bit of patience before you take off, because you may need it, especially if you visit on a weekend.
You'll also find yourself enchanted by the quaintness of the more populated areas along this 20-mile journey.
Homes and places of interest are located all along this route, making it feel a bit like a country road. There's no drive in Greater Cleveland quite like this one, as it explores one of the most beautifully unique parks in the state.
