There are so many interesting places to visit that are within a short drive from Cincinnati, you could spend a lifetime trying to see them all. About an hour and a half north of town, just across the Indiana border, is the charming town of Richmond, Indiana in Wayne County. This county and the small towns that make it up is filled with history, natural beauty, and a surprising variety of things to do. The next time you're looking for a day trip destination from Cincinnati, consider Richmond and the surrounding area, not far from home!
Richmond is located in Wayne County, which happens to be only 90 minutes from Cincinnati and is a delightful place to visit.
Downtown Richmond is a great place to start your visit, with plenty to do in the area. From small shops to museums and restaurants, Richmond offers a lot for visitors. For a special meal, try Galo's Italian Grill, not far from downtown.
If you'd like to get out and explore the natural beauty of this area, Richmond again offers plenty of options.
Hayes Arboretum, pictured above at its Nature Center, has acres upon acres to explore. And if you like chasing waterfalls, head to Waterfall Road in Richmond across from Springwood Park to see the beauty pictured above, Thistlewaite Falls.
Near Richmond is the historic town of Cambridge City, which is also a great place to visit when in the area.
Cambridge City is in the heart of Antique Alley, so you know you can hunt down a few hidden treasures while visiting. The Huddleston Farmhouse Inn Museum & Historic National Road Interpretive Center, shown above, is also a must-see when in the area. It's a great way to learn about the county's history. If you need even more history, the Levi & Catharine Coffin State Historic Site & Interpretive Center, the red building above, can be found in nearby Fountain City.
Richmond, Indiana and really all of Wayne County, has a real appreciation for its history and works hard to preserve it for others to experience today.
