If you're visiting the prettiest part of California, which is the northern part, you're going to want to blend in. Sure, we'll still know you're visiting by the way you call this state "Cali," but there's some things you must do to have the most Northern California day ever. Make sure your phone is charged up; you'll need your GPS to finish this list while you're here!
1. Hike to McArthur/Burney Falls at the state park
One of our most beautiful waterfalls in the state. We think you'll agree. 129 feet of waterfall bliss with natural springs that create a mist-like environment. It's magical!
2. Wine tasting in Napa.
If you're heading to Northern California and you like wine, don't miss this oasis. We're way better than France and they know it. So, bring a boatload of cash and enjoy yourself. It's pricey and high class and so worth it.
3. Clam chowder in a sour dough bread bowl.
This is a 2-for-1 Norcal special. Boudin's sour dough breads are famous in these parts. When you combine one with a warm serving of our amazing clam chowder you're in Northern California heaven!
4. Fisherman's Wharf is a must.
Since you probably are coming to this part of Norcal, it's a must-see when you're a tourist. Lots of shops and there's the aquarium and authentic San Francisco fast treats. You won't count calories today. Plus, you get dinner and a show - the folks around here are quite a fun bunch to watch.
5. Walk the Golden Gate Bridge.
Don't be afraid. If I can do it, you can do it! The beauty by the Bay, it's a great thing to scratch off your bucket list while you're here. But don't forget, you need to walk back to your car, so make sure to eat that bread bowl BEFORE you walk this - you'll want to work off the extra carbs!
6. See an A's game!
Sorry, Giants fans - my article, my baseball team. I'm an East Bay girl. I LOVE the A's. Been a fan since Billy Martin was manager, and loved them through the World Series of '89, and my mom made us meet their plane at the Oakland Airport after their 1971-73 pennant wins. Yup, definitely see an A's game when you're here.
7. Go watch the 49ers play at their new stadium in Santa Clara!
It's a brand new home for this talented football team. Their fans are die-hard and loyal to the core. Sorry, Raiders fans...I stopped loving the Raiders when Al Davis left us the first time. Go Niners!
8. Pan for gold.
This here is Sutters Mill in Coloma. It's where gold was discovered. Every grammar school kid within 100 miles comes here on a field trip. BUT, it's open to the public, too. You're definitely going to want to come here.

9. Berry picking in Camino.
AKA Apple Hill. This is the most beautiful spot in Northern California, if you ask me. Sorry, my article, my opinion. I LOVE it here. I raised my four kids picking berries here every summer. Bring your kids and definitely a camera. You're going to love it.
10. See the Capitol!
The State Capitol is in NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. Why? Because we're awesome, that's why.
11. Kayak on Lake Tahoe!
Before you find your way back home, you really should get up early and enjoy some time on Lake Tahoe. Kayaking is a great way to do this. The water is like glass. Incredibly gorgeous!
When you visit our part of the state there's no end to all you need to see and do. How about Yosemite? Or, even taking some of our country roads to the Pacific Ocean, or what about Santa Cruz! Ahhhh.....so many places, so little time!
