It's impossible to compile a list of the most scenic towns in Southern California as every pocket of this part of the country has its own unique and spectacular beauty. If you wander throughout SoCal you'll find stunning vistas in every direction, beautiful sandy beaches that take your breath away, and handsome mountains that will make you fall in love with this part of the state. After witnessing every inch of Southern California, it's quite possible to think that every town is equally breathtaking. Here are a few of our favorite spots. Is your hometown on this list?
1. Ventura
Oh Ventura how I love thee! No matter where my eyes gaze there is a picture-perfect pocket of scenery to fall in love with in this SoCal town.
2. Temecula
Temecula by hot air balloon is one way to guarantee you'll see the most scenic side of this wonderful town. This time of year is especially magnificent as the season transitions from summer to fall. Be on the lookout for some gorgeous autumn leaves.
3. Idyllwild
It's hard to beat the scenic mountains in this picturesque SoCal town. Just gazing up at that mountain is enough to make you feel at peace while being surrounded by this rare beauty.
4. Coronado
There are many scenic spots in Coronado so it's hard to pick just one. But, if I had to, my personal favorite would have to be the boardwalk. There's nothing more scenic than strolling along the water with the San Diego skyline off in the distance. It's quite a sight to see.
5. Valley Center
It's hard not to be drawn to the colorful scenery that can be found in the lavender fields in Valley Center. And just wait until you breathe in that fragrant scent when the lavender is in bloom each year. Pure heaven!
6. San Diego
I never get tired of the variety of scenery that can be found in San Diego. I'm especially fond of all the intricate cliffs that surround us here in America's Finest City.
7. Joshua Tree
The magic of Joshua Tree is apparent at every angle. This is a spot where you can escape time and time again and the scenery will never fail you.
8. Anaheim
The tree-lined streets in Anaheim are enough to rejuvenate your spirit, especially when the Jacaranda trees are in full bloom. Just look at those soft purple blossoms!
9. Avalon in Catalina Island
The town of Avalon is a given when it comes to any type of "best of" list. This spot in particular is the perfect vantage point for a breathtaking view of Avalon Bay. Isn't this lovely?!
10. Irvine
Irvine is home to some of the most gorgeous parks in SoCal that are perfect for spending an afternoon or an entire lazy weekend. Pictured here: William R. Mason Regional Park.
11. Santa Clarita
This may be the most peaceful setting to experience the beauty of SoCal's scenery. Just sit back and relax in Santa Clarita at sunset and all your cares will melt away.
12. Marina Del Rey
Fisherman's Village in Marina Del Rey is a colorful and picturesque spot to soak up the SoCal scenery.
13. Altadena
If the scenery of a mountain hike and tree-covered trails light you up, then the town of Altadena will make your senses happy. Pictured here: Echo Mountain.
14. Seal Beach
If scenery to you is just another word for window shopping, then Seal Beach will make you swoon. It's perfect for a slow afternoon of strolling, dining, and people watching.
15. Fallbrook
The beauty of farm country in Fallbrook is incomparable. The lush land and rolling hills in this quiet pocket of SoCal is always inspiring.
16. San Juan Capistrano
From the stunning architecture of Mission San Juan Capistrano to the charm of the downtown historic district, nothing compares to this quaint scenic town tucked away in Orange County.
17. San Clemente
Whether you experience San Clemente on foot or pass by on the train, this is one town that should be on everyone's most-scenic list.
18. La Jolla
Oh La Jolla you are lovely! From the cove to the bustling shopping district on Girard and Prospect street, there is always something to see in this wonderful part of town.
