These seven towns are all under an hour drive from Baltimore and they all offer something a little different. 1. Ellicott City
Ellicott City has received a lot of attention over the past year and a half due to the tragic flooding in July 2016. Now, nearly all of this town is back up and running and their EC Pride is high as ever. Check out the antique shops, boutiques, and eateries that line the streets and bring a camera to capture the historic sights.

2. Savage
The little town is most known for the Historic Savage Mill Mall, which is a unique complex full of shops, restaurants, and other businesses. The Bollman Truss Railroad Bridge (pictured) and a short but scenic trail are also nearby. Spend some time exploring both indoors and outdoors for a one of a kind day trip.

3. Sparks
Drive north of Baltimore and you'll eventually end up in a rural area known as Sparks or Sparks Glencoe. You'll be surprised to learn that there are actually quite a few delectable restaurants here that are worth the drive. Whether you're seeking a cafe atmosphere or a fancier historic eatery, you can find it here.

4. Sykesville
This place was recently named America's Coolest Small Town by Budget Travel. The Main Street area has boutiques, restaurants, and there's even a nearby train park for the kids. Be sure to also check out the town's events on their website.

5. Jarrettsville
For a rustic day among nature, head to this Harford County town. During certain times of year, it's covered in sunflowers so bring a camera! We recommend visiting Rocks State Park, which has a scenic waterfall, ample hiking trails, and a majestic overlook known as the King and Queen Seat. Adventure awaits!

6. Monkton
This rural town is full of farms and fields but you'll also find hidden gems if you know where to look. Ladew Topiary Gardens is a whimsical place with fairy tale hedges, impressive trees, and more. Then if you're feeling hungry, head to The Manor Tavern for a bite to eat. It's an equestrian themed eatery with a warm and cozy atmosphere.

We of course had to include our state's capital. Annapolis is a great spot for a day trip, whether you love history, food, or shopping. The scenery isn't too shabby either. This nautical spot doesn't disappoint.
