Known as the little town with a lot of tradition, you’ll love spending a summer weekend in Tontitown. With approximately 5,600 residents, it’s guaranteed that this small town in Arkansas has the recipe for wholesome family-friendly activities. From the weekly farmers market to the live entertainment to the seasonal festivals, and more, this is one of the best small towns for a summer weekend in Arkansas. Read on for a snapshot of what to expect when visiting this charming Ozark town.
Incorporated in 1909, the small town of Tontitown is tucked inside the Ozarks just 10 miles south of Fayetteville Arkansas.
It’s a town that’s rich in Italian heritage and promotes building a diverse community for all to enjoy. And it’s one of the best places to spend the weekend in Arkansas.
Beginning in early May, the Farmers Market kicks off with loads of fun activities for the family. The market is hosted in the Harry Sbanotto Park, which is in the heart of the city.
There you’ll find local vendors to skilled artisans selling fresh produce, yummy treats, handmade products, jewelry, and everything in between.
Along with the goods and fresh produce, you can expect live entertainment as well as various fun events. There have been car shows, doggie shows, games, music, and so much more.
Let's just say, going to the Farmers Market is an adventure on its own.
Throughout the Summer, there are also live music events at Harry Sbanotto Park. Nothing beats a day at a park with live entertainment. Personally, it’s one of my favorite pastime activities.
In addition, the town hosts other summertime family-friendly events that the locals enjoy. They include Heritage Day, the Bocce Ball Tournament, as well as the many car shows showcasing vintage rides.
Of course, there is also a winery that offers even more entertainment. Aside from wine tasting, you’ll love the live music as well as the activities and games on the patio of Tontitown Winery.
But the crown jewel of the Summer weekend is the Tontitown Grape Festival, which is hosted in nearby Springdale, Arkansas.
From carnival rides to food to games to arts and crafts to a coronation, and more, the activities are endless.
It’s also a festival that pays homage to the rich Italian history of the town. So, expect to see grape stomping and plan to eat some delicious authentic cuisine.
The festival is one of the biggest celebrations in Northwest Arkansas and in my opinion, it’s a must-visit. On your weekend adventure, be sure to grab some delicious authentic Italian food and stop by the Historical Museum to learn more about the rich heritage of the town.
