Today's featured route is a mountainous meander around Northern Arkansas.
The route has a couple of turn options and can include the Sylamore Scenic Byway. The standard route is about 150 miles long and takes roughly three and a half hours to complete (depending on your stops). View the full map here.
The sweeping views are what makes this route so spectacular.
It's easy to see why motorcyclists especially love this route. The curvy and windy road cuts through the mountains and offers endless views of the valleys below.
The loop can take under four hours or turn into an overnight trip.
The number of stops depends on you! One way to turn your scenic drive into a scenic getaway is by taking advantage of Wild Bill's Outfitter. Simply stop for gas and snacks or rent one of their cabins! You can also rent a kayak to paddle the Buffalo National River for an extra afternoon of fun. See all their spoils on their website.
There are reasons to visit just about any time of year.
The seasonal scenery can change from a sea of lush greenery to an explosion of fall foliage. This route can easily become one you revisit to see the changing views.
Before finishing your loop you can take a side trip to the state's most unique state park - The Ozark Folk Center.
While most of Arkansas' state parks are focused on a featured mountain or lake, this one is all about the Ozark culture. Enjoy live music, see craft and trade demonstrations, and leave learning something new about the area! More details can be found on the state park website here.
