Are you searching for a destination to get away from it all? I’ve found a remote small town in Arkansas where you can embrace the simple side of life. Taylor is not a well-known town, which makes it the perfect destination to unwind and indulge in peace and quiet. With just over 500 residents along with its scenic lake and great restaurants, I recommend this secluded town for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Gas up the car and let’s head to south Arkansas to escape to this tiny, peaceful town.
Perhaps it's not often that you find yourself traveling to one of the southernmost towns in Arkansas, but Taylor is worth the drive.
Just 20 miles southwest of Magnolia and 5 miles short of the Louisiana border, this town might be remote, but it has a lot to offer. The quaint town has approximately 500 residents, so don't expect to see many attractions once you arrive.
However, what the town lacks in attractions, it makes up for in outdoor recreation. See, this town is home to one of the best fishing lakes in Arkansas, making it a great place for a peaceful escape. If you're an angler or love boating, you'll want to explore Lake Erling.
The 7,000-acre lake is a hotspot for anglers looking to catch crappies and bass, but it's also a great oasis if you're seeking solitude. Along the lake, there are incredible camping and boating opportunities. Lake Erling RV Park boasts rustic cabins, RV spots with hookups, fishing, boat dock, and more. Bring your RV and boat and enjoy a peaceful weekend on the lake.
During the year, there are several events throughout the town. It's an opportunity for the locals to gather and enjoy delicious food, games, and more. The fish fry at Cummings Camp is a local favorite.
While in town, you'll want to stop by the Lake Erling Country Store and Grill. This charming store is a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. You can get all your fishing gear as well as licenses here, but you should stay for a heaping plate of downhome cookin’ as well.
You'll also want to check out Bass Haven. Nestled on the banks of the scenic lake, folks have said that this restaurant has some of the best catfish in Arkansas. In fact, people have driven for miles just to indulge in all that it has to offer.
Wanna stretch your legs? If so, head to the nearby Logoly State Park to enjoy the hiking trails that meander around flowing creeks and streams and feature lots of local wildlife. In addition to the trails, you'll love the visitor center with interactive exhibits, picnic areas, boardwalk, and so much more. The park is a peaceful haven to escape from it all.
One of the best parts about Taylor is that you can enjoy the incredible sunsets over Lake Erling. There is no better way to end a day trip or a weekend getaway than to watch the sun go down. If you're searching for a destination to escape the hustle and bustle of life, consider adding this remote small town in Arkansas to your list.
