I absolutely love an old-fashioned Christmas celebration. From the festive parades to the melodious Christmas carols to the decked-out storefronts, to the pictures with Santa, and more, these traditional Christmas festivities will fill any heart with joy. Luckily, we have many charming small towns in Arkansas that celebrate Christmas in the best way. One such town is El Dorado which hosts lots of holiday events throughout the season. And its old-fashioned celebration is the best way to experience a classic Christmas in Arkansas.
Now that the holiday season is in full swing, are you searching for last-minute festivities in Arkansas? If so, have no worries, just head to El Dorado for their “Oh What Fun It Is To…” holiday celebration.
Beginning in mid-November, Main Street El Dorado comes alive with its annual Christmas celebration. The event kicks off with a holiday lighting ceremony, where Santa turns on the Christmas lights in the town square.
In addition to the lighting ceremony, there is live entertainment, Christmas carols, free hot chocolate and cookies, free holiday train, storytime, and so much more.
While in town, you might spot Santa riding around in a horse and carriage. Perhaps his reindeer are resting, so they can be energized for the big night ahead. For a small fee, you can ride the carriage too.
Of course, all the storefronts on Main Street will be decked-out with holiday lights and decorations, so be sure to stop by to admire the decor. Plus, the stores will host various shopping events throughout the season, where you can pick up some great last-minute holiday gifts.
One of the highlights of this old-fashioned celebration is the "Scooby-Dooby-Doo, Merry Christmas to You" holiday parade. Each year, folks line the streets of El Dorado to see the festive floats dripping with dazzling lights. There might be a surprise or two at the parade, so you'll want to get there early to grab the best seat in the house.
Throughout the months of November and December, Santa will be in town to host various events. You can enjoy Pancakes with Santa or have a meet and greet with him on the town square. Come with your wish list and be prepared to tell him if you've been naughty or nice this year.
Moreover, Santa might bring some of his friends along to this traditional Christmas celebration in El Dorado. So, don't forget to bring your camera to take pics with St. Nick and his friends.
Other events in town include art and craft fairs as well as the Trail of Lights celebration (Dec 5 to Dec 31) at the Murphy Arts District Amphitheater. Be sure to check out the El Dorado holiday events page (linked below) for all the upcoming activities.
With all the traditional Christmas festivities, I have no doubt that El Dorado will be your new favorite town in Arkansas to celebrate the holiday season.
So, what do you think about this old-fashioned holiday celebration in El Dorado? Will you add it to your list this year?
