You shouldn’t drink and drive, folks. It’s dangerous, potentially deadly, and just so very illegal. Having said that, you should definitely take this trip. You can either switch off playing designated driver for your group or you can choose to spread your wine adventure across several days; either way you shouldn’t miss out on fun, history, incredible scenery, or incredible wine. We’re starting out in Roland and ending in Tontitown, and you’re going to see some beautiful countryside in your four and a half hours of drive time. So buckle up, ladies and gents. We’re touring some of the best wineries in the Natural State.

1. An Enchanting Evening (Roland)

Thirty minutes west of Little Rock, you’re going to find an exceptional tasting room in a gorgeous and unique setting. An Enchanted Evening, a super cool wedding venue in Arkansas’s Little Italy, has opened up its tasting room to the public on weekends. We’re starting here and they’re only open on Fridays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., so make arrangements accordingly.

2. Cowie Wine Cellars (Paris)

You’re going to drive almost two hours from An Enchanted Evening to Cowie Wine Cellars, but what awaits you there is truly worth the journey. You see, Cowie Wine Cellars isn’t simply a charming family-run winery with a tasting room—it’s also home to the only wine museum in the U.S. that preserves the complete history of wine for an entire state.

3. Chateau Aux Arc (Altus)

Next we’re traveling about a half hour to the very heart of Arkansas wine country, the tiny town of Altus. Chateau Aux Arc holds to the idea that "good wine begins in the vineyard," and they are certainly living up to that standard. The vineyards are gorgeous, the wines are incredible, and it’s a lovely place to spend your time.

4. Dionysus Wine & Brew (Altus)

Dionysus Wine & Brew doesn’t mind if you consider yourself a home brewer. In fact, they’ll sell you supplies. Mostly, though, they offer an experience. Dionysus is a boutique winery with an adorable tasting room, a cool gift shop, and fantastic wine. This winery has only been around since 2014, but it has the benefit of its co-founders’ extensive experience in the industry.

5. Wiederkehr Wine Cellars (Altus)

From a long and storied history of wine production dating to the 1800s to the undeniable coolness and deliciousness of Weinkeller Restaurant, which was built over the original hand-dug wine cellar, Wiederkehr Wine Cellars is a top notch facility. It was actually the eighth winery to be bonded in the U.S., and it retains the old world atmosphere that it has had from its very inception.

Wiederkehr Wine Cellars is located at 3324 Swiss Family Drive in Wiederkehr Village.

6. Post Winery (Altus)

Dating back to 1880, Post Familie still runs a family farm with a vineyard up on Pond Mountain, called Post Vineyards. Post Winery has a lovely, recently updated retail space and tasting room, and a commercial kitchen that serves up absolutely fantastic tea room-style lunches. Their biggest crop is Muscadine, and you’ve never tried a Muscadine wine or juice, this is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

7. Sassafras Springs Vineyards (Springdale)

If you’re doing this trip all at once, it’s going to take you about an hour and a half to get to our next stop. That’s because we’re going all the way up to Springdale to see a winery seated on fifteen acres of extraordinarily beautiful land. Sassafras Springs Vineyards is a perfectly picturesque place to taste wine, with breathtaking chapel ruins and stables for events and a big patio, too.

8. Tontitown Winery (Tontitown)

You probably know Tontitown as the place with the truly epic grape festival, and there’s good reason for that. Tontitown owes its grapey history to Italian immigrants who settled the region and brought viticulture with them. Tontitown was founded due to these immigrants, and it prospered from their grapes. In addition to a tasting room you’ll find a history room that can tell you all about the wine industry in the region, all housed in a building built in 1917.
