You may have visited Arkansas' little wine country and surely you've chased a waterfall or two, but did you know both activities could be combined into the perfect day trip? There's no better showcase of the state's finer offerings (natural or otherwise) than by exploring the state's waterfalls and wineries. Next time you're looking for "waterfalls near me" that happen to be located near wineries, you'll be glad you stumbled upon this fun-filled itinerary. Let's sip and hike as we travel this perfect road trip.
This might just be the best road trip we've ever covered.
Which is saying something since we've featured everything from wildflower fields to fried chicken road trips. You can read about all of them by following this link. Today's particular trip is rather fantastic not only because it's focused on wine and waterfalls, but also because of all the extra goodies. This day trip may only have four stops but you can actually visit up to eight wineries and four waterfalls. Let's begin with a three-for-one waterfall hike in Mulberry.
We'll begin our excursion with three unbelievably beautiful waterfalls.
Mulberry Mountain has the lovely three-for-one waterfall trail. The 2.5-mile out-and-back trail takes hikers to Spirit Mt. Falls, Mt. Fork Creek Falls, and Sixty Foot Falls. This trail can be accessed from the campground of Mulberry Mountain Lodging & Events. There is a day use fee of $5 but you'll also be able to get a map of the trail. Learn more about this breathtaking Arkansas destination when you check out Mulberry Mountain Lodging & Events online.
After chasing Mulberry's waterfalls, we'll dive right into Arkansas wine country.
No wine road trip would be complete without exploring Altus. The tiny town is home to over five wineries, all of which deserve a visit. Have a taste of chardonnay or zinfandel at Chateau Aux Arc (8045 Champagne Dr., Highway 186, Altus, AR 72821) before sipping moscato at the Post Winery (1700 Saint Mary's Mountain Rd.,Altus, AR 72821). No matter if you visit all the town's wineries or just a few, just be sure to finish with lunch at the Wiederkehr Weinkeller Restaurant (3324 Swiss Family Dr., Wiederkehr Village, AR 72821). The Wiederkehr family has been crafting wines since 1880! Learn more about what makes Altus such a memorable small town in Arkansas.
As a friendly reminder, never drink and drive.
We'll continue on to our next waterfall stop at Arkansas' oldest state park.
You really can't consider yourself a true Arkansan until you've hiked to Cedar Falls. The 95-ft. waterfall is just one of the gems to explore in Petit Jean State Park. Feel free to pitch a tent for the night or just enjoy the 1.2-mile waterfall trail. Learn more about planning your trip to the oldest state park in Arkansas. The state park is located at 1285 Petit Jean Mountain Rd., Morrilton, AR 72110.
For a sweet finale, our last stop is at this charming winery in a yurt.
The adorably tiny winery is part of An Enchanting Evening, a romantic getaway in central Arkansas. Drink in the spectacular views of Pinnacle Mountain and Lake Maumelle while sitting on the yurt's deck. An Enchanted Evening is located at 29300 Highway 300, Roland, AR 72135. They also have a cozy cabin if you'd like to spend the night as well. For more information, including reservations and availability, be sure to check out An Enchanting Evening online.
