It's not every day that Arkansas makes national news. Earlier this month the CEO from Priceline announced the site's top five "Emerging Travel Cities in the U.S." and Hot Springs made the top spot. Let's see what makes this beloved city stand out from the rest of the nation.
Congratulations to Hot Springs! Priceline.com just ranked the city as the #1 emerging travel spot.
This Arkansas city beat out Cleveland, OH; Durham, NC; Detroit, MI; and Deadwood, SD. Priceline.com made their decision based on five years worth of booking information.
There's no doubt Hot Springs is a popular travel destination. After all, they have two of the most visited family attractions in the state.
Garvan Woodland Gardens and Magic Springs are must-visits for Arkansans and out-of-towners. They're the largest botanical gardens and water park, respectively, in the state. The Gardens are tucked away at 550 Arkridge Rd., Hot Springs, AR 71913 and Magic Springs is on 1701 E Grand Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901.
And of course Oaklawn has brought in droves of folks since 1904.
That's including the 40 years when the government considered Hot Springs to be the largest illegal gambling operation in America. You really can't miss it at 2705 Central Ave, Hot Springs, AR 71901.
The report revealed that more people are interested in traveling to smaller cities rather than big-name destinations.
Which really isn't news to Arkansans. We all know that small towns (or cities with that small town feel) are the best places to visit.
From bathhouses to breweries, the nation's first resort town has quite a bit to offer visitors.
Such as Superior Bathhouse Brewery. It's the only brewery that resides in a national park. It's a pretty fantastic spot for beer enthusiasts as well as families looking for a meal break during their Central Avenue stroll. It finishes Bathhouse Row at 329 Central Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901.
The hidden gems of the city are what make visits worthwhile.
One of our favorites is the ice cream parlor, Scoops. They have homemade ice cream that's made from fresh ingredients and slow churned for peak creaminess. Scoops is located at 4043 Central Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71913.
Unlike some of the other cities named in the top five, Hot Springs showcases attractions both urban and natural.
After having a day filled with popular destinations, visitors can retreat to the woods at places like Catherine's Landing. Which you can find at 1700 Shady Grove Rd., Hot Springs National Park, AR 71901.
We're proud that Hot Springs could represent Arkansas in such an outstanding way.
It's the perfect blend of attraction-filled city with small town charm.
We all may have already known that Hot Springs is a pretty fantastic place to visit but it's always nice to get a national shout out. What's your favorite thing about this city? Share with us in the comments below!
