The December holidays have wrapped up and the hangovers from New Years have passed, so now we can all look forward to festivities of Mardi Gras. Sure, there are towns around the state that throw a parade or maybe have a dinner. But there's one city that explodes in purple, gold, and green and take visitors to the French Quarter of New Orleans year after year. Eureka Springs is hosting a myriad of festivities for the next two months. From balls to parades, let's take a look at some of the happenings.
Our favorite eclectic city is about to have a Mardi Gras makeover for the next two months.
The Krewe of Krazo has been hosting the event since 2006. The extravaganza has outdone itself every year.
As you can see it's not at all popular with the citizens...nope, not a big deal at all.
Hopefully you picked up on our sarcasm. Eureka Springs takes Mardi Gras to a whole new level; they'll have 13 events from Jan. 6th until Feb. 13th.
This year's theme will be Pirates of the Caribbean.
The spectacle will begin with the Kings Day Kick-Off Party at the Rowdy Beaver.
The celebrations will include umbrella decoration for the traditional 2nd line.
That's the line that follows the big brass band, participants usually twirl parasols as part of the dance.
Since feasting is an essential part of Mardi Gras, there's plenty of chances to chow down.
There's the Taste of N’Awlins at the Grand Central Hotel and Tavern (Jan. 20th) , Artigras: Palette to Palate (Jan. 25th), a benefit wine dinner (Jan. 27th), and a jazz brunch (Feb. 11th).
Not to mention all the dinner and dancing at the balls.
There's the Coronation Ball (Feb. 2nd) featuring the Grand Royal Procession at the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center. The Basin Park Hotel will host the Mayor's Ball (Feb. 10th).
There'll also be the Jokers Masquerade Ball.
It's on Feb. 9th also at the convention center.
And don't miss the Black Light Ball following the Night Parade.
On Feb. 3rd, the Night Parade will walk downtown on Spring and Main Streets at 6 PM followed by the Black Light Ball.
The Costume Day Parade will be an outrageously fun event for the entire family.
The themed floats will parade alongside bands, animals, costumed walkers, and the Royalty. It'll be Feb. 10th at 2 PM on Spring and Main Streets.
The King Cake Ball will wrap up Mardi Gras on Feb. 13th.
If you feel tired from just reading about all these events, it's okay, we've reached the finale. The ball will feature an oyster bar, Cajun dinner, and live music.
